Description
Some hikers, trekkers and hill-walkers prefer to use a longer stick -(usually called a staff) β than the traditional walking stick/cane. Although I generally concentrate on making normal length sticks, I occasionally come across shanks which are long enough to be finished as staffs.
This is a very large Blackthorn hiking staff.Β It is a real ‘brute’ suitable more as a rare example of Blackthorn of this size.Β It would be more suited as a showpiece rather than as an aid onΒ a long hike!
Blackthorn is prone to splitting β this is a characteristic of the wood so hairline cracks are common. All of my Blackthorn sticks have been seasoned for a minimum of four years so any cracks will have ceased before they are offered for sale.
