Some hikers, trekkers and hill-walkers prefer to use a longer stick -(usually called a staff) – than the traditional walking stick/cane. Although I generally concentrate on making normal length sticks, I occasionally come across shanks which are long enough to be finished as staffs.
This is a neat slim Blackthorn hiking staff.
Blackthorn is prone to splitting – this is a characteristic of the wood so hairline cracks are common. All of my Blackthorn sticks have been seasoned for a minimum of four years so any cracks will have ceased before they are offered for sale.
