Holly can be used to make walking sticks that are attractive to the eye and hard wearing in use.

There are, however, some difficulties when working with Holly. The bark can be difficult to retain so it is a bonus when an opportunity arises to produce a 'bark-on' stick.

Other challenges presented by Holly include a tendency for shanks to taper too sharply and the cross section being oval rather than round.

Nonetheless, I enjoy making Holly sticks in spite of the challenges. This is because the end result is invariably a stick with charm and character.

Reasons for choosing a Holly walking stick:

2. Difficult to source - not a 'run of the mill' stick
3. Full of individuality and character

I source all my sticks locally in an environmentally friendly way. I season the sticks for a minimum of two years and finish each one by hand.

The dimensions shown under  ‘Additional Information’ are in inches and ounces. The width is the measurement at the tip (bottom) of the stick. Any stick can be shortened to a specified length at no extra cost.
